    Brethren,

What an amazing month this has been! Between the Grand Banquets for Grand Council, Chapter, and Commandry and all of the fun I had with my brothers it truly has been amazing. It all started with the Banquets were I spoke on behalf of you, thanking them for what they do for DeMolay and then challenging them to do more. The next big thing which I hope YOU attended was the Autumn Workshop in Mason, OH. This went better than expected; we shared a lot of information and had a lot of fun! Then, as if that wasn’t enough, we drove a couple miles and went to King’s Island for Fearfest. This was my first trip to King’s Island and I must say that there are few thrills like riding the Beast on a dark night. Between the Roller Coasters and the Haunted Houses it was one of the best events of the year! The very next day I had the pleasure of doing an Installation for Ivanhoe Chapter. The new MC there is looking to do some great things and I believe he can do them. For those who don’t know Grand Lodge is the biggest speech a State Master Councilor will likely do all year. Standing in front of 3,000 people, delivering the message that DeMolay is still alive and it needs there help, brings a rush like few other things can. It was really exciting and made me proud to be the State Master Councilor. I think we can all congratulate Jimmy Baughman from Groveport Chapter. It is not often that an Active DeMolay has the chance to not only become a councilor in there chapter but also earn the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. I know he put in a lot of work and I know we are all very proud of him. Later that night I made it to the Fall Ball sponsored by the local Job’s Bethel. This was a lot of fun, especially the games that we had mid-dance. Locking hands and squirming through a Hula-Hoop and especially doing the Limbo (which I, at 6’3”, got second place in) were really fun. That next Monday, Groveport Chapter had an Inspection. They performed the DeMolay Degree with precision and overall performed will during the Inspection. We next went to a Region 4 Meeting in Louisville where we met with the Elected Officers from other states like Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, and West Virginia. We had a lot of fun and brought back a lot of new and interesting ideas to share with all of you! Just wait. I hope all of you are planning on attending Flag Football on Nov. 4 as well as Ritual Competition on Dec. 9 in Mansfield. But I especially hope you will be attending Winterfest (form due dec 1.) SEVEN, 7, SEVEN, 7, SEVEN WATER SLIDES!!! This place is AMAZING and I hope that everyone is planning to attend the event of the decade. You won’t want to miss this, TRUST ME!

    PS. SEVEN Water Slides!
    Fraternally,
    Bro. Craig A. Loose
    State Master Councilor

Think your Chapter has an event worth mentioning, invite the SMC and read his Article to find out if you are right
This Years Winterfest is going to be great with the price only going up a little bit from last year to $135 But the place we are having it is amazing. Most hotels have a pool and if your lucky its an indoor one and you can use it in the winter. But our Hotel Has a whole water park inside it. this place is called Fort Rapids and its huge it has a Just write that they have a 5,000 sq. ft. arcade, virtual bowling, virtual golf, Old Thyme's Photos, 1,000 gallon dumping bucket(pictured), and SEVEN Count them 7 four story water slides that's like 28 stories of fun.

Registration is due Dec. 1, 2006 and heres a link to the registration form online.

You can also check out www.ohiodemolay.org and click on winterfest to see some pictures of the water park.
    Wet Gold !

Some people are so gullible you could sell them water! What makes this deal interesting is that you won’t be selling normal bottled water, you’ll be selling personalized bottles of water for your chapter. For a dollar a piece your chapter could be selling water for anywhere between a 35% to 104% profit! 104% profit? How do I do that? The trick is to minimize the initial cost of buying the water by having sponsors donate money toward the shipping cost and in exchange have their company featured alongside the Ohio DeMolay logo. I want to start out by giving a big THANK YOU to the Grand Commandery of Ohio. Last year the Grand Commandery started a program to assist with the costs for ODLE, our leadership training session. I’m happy to announce that Ohio DeMolay received a very nice donation to help assist with this program. Our ODLE Director Dad Greg Kita and Education Services Coordinator Dad Duane Kemerley have worked hard over the years to kept the expenses under control but you can only reuse items so many times before you have to replace them. I would especially like to thank the person who spearheaded the operation, Richard Speer, and without him I’m not sure if this effort would have provided the success which was achieved.
I was excited by the participation at the Fall Workshop in Mason, Ohio. While it would have been nice to have twice the attendance, those who did attend received a lot of valuable information to help build their Chapters and keep them strong in the future. To those who didn’t attend, you missed some valuable training. I want to congratulate our State Master Councilor, Craig Loose, for coming up with this new (“old”) idea. I would also like to thank Dad Duane Kemerley who helped put the overall program together and those State Officers and Past State Officers who also assisted in the training.
The Ohio State Council is working hard to provide new and interesting ideas and programs for the Chapters and Districts which might not be feasible with smaller groups of DeMolays. Take advantage of the activities the Council plans for you and if you would like a new activity (or change to an old activity) talk to the State Officers. They might be able to accommodate your request. The Ohio State Council and its’ Officers are here to assist you but if you want their help, you need to ask,

    In DeMolay Service,

    Dad Shaw
What are some of the reasons why you joined Demolay? I specifically remember on one account a really sweet dance that I went to. The d.j. was great, the girls were there, and it was a sweet party. This past Saturday, Hamilton Demolay hosted a Halloween dance for a fundraiser. Not only did we raise money, but also we had a great time in the process. The costumes were hilarious, (Miles Johnson was a Bengal cheerleader witch lady), and prizes were even handed out. This is one great way for new people to become interested in joining Demolay! When they see how much fun it is to be in the fraternity, they will want to sign up as soon as possible. We could possibly have two more young guys interested in joining our chapter. I would encourage dances. You could raise money, and possibly meet a pretty rainbow girl that is interested in you.
Round Tables worked for Arthur; why not you?

All right gentlemen the word of the month is "RETENTION" membership retention that is. I'm stressing membership retention because keeping the brothers we have is as important as sharing DeMolay with a new brother. My suggestion is to come up with your own membership retention activities. WAIT A MINUTE, YOUR TELLING US TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WE WANT TO DO; I know it's crazy. A good way to figure out what the membership wants to do is by having a round table discussion. The purpose of a round table discussion is for the membership to come together equally to make a decision based on what everyone wants. The idea of the round table comes from the legend of King Arthur. Arthur understood the importance of counseling; so he had a round table made so him and his knights were equal in the decision process for governing Camelot. Bottom line guys a round table can help your chapter figure the best way to tackle the problem of membership retention. Make sure someone is taking notes and that no body leaves unhappy, the goal is retention and compromise will be needed. The discussion should be lead by the Master Councilor with this question "what can we do to stay active and build our chapter from the inside, out?" It's just so crazy it might work. Do us a favor and keep your representative to the state council in loop on any round table discussions.

A few years ago, Ralph H. McMillan Chapter had a very successful event called South Regional Fun Day. It began with an initiation, and then moved to multiple paintball games until dark. After dark the attendants stayed up all night having a good time playing trading card games, card games, and paper- pencil role-playing games. The Fun Day was very successful, but we had put little planning into the event.
We are going to try again this year. But this year we plan to start really early. The event is going to be in April, that is six months away. If we want the event to go smoothly we must plan way ahead. Plan to have the flyer for South West Regional Fun Day circulating two or three months in advance. This gives not only the chance for others to plan for it but the ability to correct any mistakes that were made.
It is necessary to plan events well in advance. Events that are planned in advance have a significantly greater chance for success when compared to those planed on the spur of the moment.
